A Business Case for Diversity
For my Diversity Event, I went to "A Business Case for Diversity". The speaker talked about diversity in the workplace and how it can improve performance. The speaker told us of a study that had been done on two different groups. The first group was of a non-diverse background and had high IQs. The second group was a diverse group witch had normal IQs. They presented these groups with a problem and they had to try and work together to solve it. The results were that the more diverse group with lower IQs actually did better than the non-diverse, high IQ group. This isn't that surprising when you think about it though. Each person in the diverse group has a much different outlook on solving the problem because of their different experiences and culture. The non-diverse group is only looking at the problem from one point of view. This event helped me understand just how important diversity is to the workplace, and how it can even improve performance.
