A Business Case for Diversity
For my Diversity Event, I went to "A Business Case for Diversity". The speaker talked about diversity in the workplace and how it can improve performance. The speaker told us of a study that had been done on two different groups. The first group was of a non-diverse background and had high IQs. The second group was a diverse group witch had normal IQs. They presented these groups with a problem and they had to try and work together to solve it. The results were that the more diverse group with lower IQs actually did better than the non-diverse, high IQ group. This isn't that surprising when you think about it though. Each person in the diverse group has a much different outlook on solving the problem because of their different experiences and culture. The non-diverse group is only looking at the problem from one point of view. This event helped me understand just how important diversity is to the workplace, and how it can even improve performance.

For the past couple of weeks Ive been using Twitter. I already had a twitter account, but I never really used it. Since getting this new account I have been using it a lot more lately. On Twitter, people usually post less important things going on in their lives. In this way Twitter seems slightly different from Facebook which I use more frequently. Although some people do post less important things on Facebook sometimes, but not as often.
On Facebook you probably wont be able to be friends with celebrities that you like. On Twitter however you can follow anyone you want to. Its cool to see what your favorite celebrities do in a normal day. Thats one thing Twitter has going for it that Facebook doesnt. Overall though I do prefer Facebook to Twitter because there is so many extra things you can do on Facebook. I will continue to use both though.

At My Best
At some point in life, everyone is at their best. This could be expressed in a wide variety of ways such as success in academics, athletics, or just helping someone in need. A time I remember being at my best was last year when I helped our senior class win game day on homecoming week.
During game day, each different grade ( seniors, juniors.....) competes with one another by earning points in different games they play. I was assigned to play in kickball and video games. First I played in kickball where we were tied with the juniors in points. When I went up to kick the first time I just got on base. The next time I kicked a 3 run home run when we were down by 1, and they had 2 outs already so we won kickball.
The next game I was in was video games. The sophomores were winning after playing a couple games of halo and madden. Then we played call of duty. It was me and a friend against 2 sophomores. We dominated them like 50 kills to 9 kills. We ended up winning video games and the whole game day. Everyone was really proud of me for helping us win.
As you can tell, being at your best can consist of many different things. This was one time I remember, but I usually am always trying my best in everything I do. It is important to try your best in everything you do so you achieve all your goals.

Why should you be to class on time?
It is important to be on time for class because you could miss some important information. It also isn't fair to the other students if the teacher can't start on time because of students being late. You pay a lot for college, so you should try to get as most out of it as you can.

Blog Post #1
In this blog assignment, we were asked to look at the Beloit College Mindset List. It lists 75 points that describe the incoming college class of 2014. We were asked to reflect on the points that were most accurate, and inaccurate.
I found that a lot of the points in this list were accurate, in my mind anyway. The first one that I found accurate was the one that said e-mail was too slow. I hardly ever use e-mail, except for the cymail that Iowa State uses for assignments and updates. Most people my age have adapted to Facebook, or something of that sort. In Facebook you see all the information you need on one page. With e-mail you have to go though multiple pages to see all the info.
Another point I found accurate was that we always blame the economy for our problems in life. Since as long as I can remember the economy hasn't been doing well. People are always complaining about how bad the economy is doing, and how much money they are losing.
One other point I found accurate was that people of this class have always had hundreds of channels, but nothing to watch. At home I had like 300 channels that I could watch, but I couldn't ever find anything good to watch. I would search through the cable guide like 6 or seven times and then give up. It was very frustrating.
One point that I thought was inaccurate was that people of my age don't know how to write in cursive. In my high school, all the written assignments that were handed in had to be written in cursive. I actually write in cursive most of the time because of this.
Overall I agreed with most of the points in this list. Some were more relevant than others. I thought a few were way off for me, but I thought they did a good job when composing this list.
